COMMUNION - The Rev. Marjorie Pearson
We welcome the Rev. Pearson from Santa Cruz. She is currently choir director of the La Selva Beach Community Church and a Synod Commissioner from the Presbytery of San Jose.
Please file this for future reference. Your Coordinating Team felt that the uses for this fund should be explicit. We urge you to take advantage of it for training your future leaders. THE DIANA LIM LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FUND shall be used to prepare women for leadership in Presbyterian Women. Attendance at events sponsored by the Presbyterian Church (USA) at all levels (local, presbytery, synod and national) to deepen faith, commitment and understanding shall qualify for these scholarships. Please note that this is open to ALL Presbyterian Women. We hope it shall be utilized to encourage both those currently involved with Presbyterian Women in the Congregation and those who show interest in leadership in all capacities of church life to attend such events [J&CA1]Adopted April 1996
NEWS FROM THE PRESBYTERY OF SAN JOSE
At the April meeting of the Presbytery of San Jose the proposed amendment to the Book of Order to give voice and VOTE to the Churchwide Moderator of Presbyterian Women on the General Assembly Council was approved. Thus we join in more than one-half of the presbyteries approving this. THANKS BE TO GOD!
Annual Retreat 10 June 1996
at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Aptos
All women of the Presbytery are invited to join with your Coordinating Team in this retreat. We shall continue our theme of "Visioning." The hours will be from 9:30AM to 2:30 PM . Lunch will be provided with contributions to cover the cost. Please let me know if you are attending so we may have a count for ordering lunch.
At our August Coordinating Team meeting we shall be considering a theme for next year's gatherings. If you have any ideas for us, please let me know--we wish to maintain the momentum started this year by the programs planned by Louise Hayler and Clarissa Moore.
- Moderator's Message -
Once again we rejoice in the coming of spring with its promise of new life. How appro-priate that Easter and Pentecost come during this part of the year! (Have you ever noticed that no matter what the weather person says, Easter Day is glorious?) As we look forward to the coming year of our Presbyterian Women in the Congregations and the Presbytery of San Jose we need to "vision" about our roles in the world. Acts 2:17 tells us "God says, 'This will happen in the last days: I will pour out upon everyone a portion of my spirit; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy; your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.' " (Italics are mine.) What are our 'visions and dreams?' Mine is to see Presbyterian Women change to meet the needs of our young women: they are vitally interested in the Church and its mission. We need to find ways to nurture and include them so that our organization, with its long and honorable history of service, may extend into the centuries to come. Serving as your Moderator of Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery for the past two years has been an honor and a privilege. My thanks to all of you for giving me this opportunity.
CHURCHWIDE GATHERING
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY - JULY 9-13, 1997
SURROUNDED BY A CLOUD OF WITNESSES
Are you making plans to attend this event? Not all the plans for housing are in place at this time, but it does promise to be more expensive than when the gatherings were held on college campuses. On the bright side, all the rooms will be air-conditioned (which we asked for) and we shall have a chance to see the beautiful blue-grass region of Kentucky. There will be scholarships available from Presbyterian Women Churchwide and the Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery of San Jose. The Diana Lim Leadership Development Fund can also be used for this purpose.
