November Presbytery

at Stone Church of Willow Glen

The Rev. Rebecca Kuiken presided over her last Presbytery as 2006 Moderator as the Presbytery celebrated the 300th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church.  Other events that day are described below:

Rev. Joey Lee praising

Dorothy, Don Metzger

Metzgers Honored at

Meeting

Dorothy and Don Metzgers' long service to Global Mission drew praise from the Presbytery as Rev. Joey Lee highlighted their career and the meeting presented them, in absentia, with a memories book filled with photos and letters from missionaries and well-wishers.

The Presbytery celebrated the 300th anniversary of the American Presbyterian Church with a cake (actually two: white and chocolate) presented by the hosts and hostesses at Stone Church.  Founded by meeting at Philadelphia in July, 1706, the local denomination grew to a national church.

PCUSA moderator Joan Gray said, during a national celebration:  “You can feel the cloud of witnesses ... they are with us in spirit.”

Martin Smith

A Pastoral Candidate

The Committee on Ministry announced Martin Smith as a pastoral candidate.  He was received after being questioned at the Presbytery meeting.  Other candidates continued:  Christy Spencer Polk of Saratoga, Karen Peterson-Iver of Palo Alto First

Smith (L) listens as Rev. Mark Burnham from Los Gatos Presbyterian praises his work.  Moderator Kuiken is in the middle.

Health-Care Survey

The Revs.  Bob Butziger, Karla Norton, and Chris Williams asked churches in the Presbytery to fill out a survey on health care to see if we should expand that ministry.  The survey is at

www.pcusa.org/nationalhealth/survey.htm

and churches should submit the feedback forms to the task force, at 49 4th St., San Jose 95112 / fax to 408-279-5371.

A Call for Education

The Rev. Nan Swanson reminded the Presbytery to support the education of present and future ministers and church educators by donating up to 1% (recommended) of local budget to a Theological Educatioj Fund.
