Director of Music and Worship Arts
West Valley Presbyterian Church in Cupertino, CA is seeking a Director of Music and Worship Arts. A heart for serving God and a desire to produce the highest quality music for His glory are essential. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of performing and visual arts such as directing the 35-member Chancel Choir and the Worship Ensemble (praise band), coordinating with the leaders of the Bell Choir, Youth and Children’s’ Choirs and managing volunteers and sound and lighting technicians. The 300 member congregation holds one blended Sunday service. Musical experience in all styles of worship is required. In addition to Sunday services, West Valley frequently presents major musical presentations. This is a part-time position.

Youth Associate Intern

The Ministry Intern joins the Youth Director, the Associate Pastor of Youth and their Families, and volunteer Advisors in fulfilling the church’s mission and ministry with middle and high school students. A commitment to collegial, team-oriented leadership of this ministry with students, parents, advisors and staff is a priority. This person will work with the youth ministry team to help organize and lead an effective and comprehensive youth ministry program, intentionally pursue a relational ministry that draws students closer to Christ, calls them to deeper discipleship and builds closer connections to this community of faith.
This is a 12 month, 20 hour/week position beginning in September of 2011. It is assumed that weekends and 2-3 weekday evenings are part of the Intern’s work schedule.
Stipend: $1000 a month plus reimbursement for approved ministry expenses and contact work.
Job Description:
- Pursue a life of personal worship and relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Build and maintain healthy relationships with students and leaders for the purpose of encouraging maturing Christian discipleship.
- Partner with AP and the Youth Director in developing a ministry that recognizes the primary role parents play in the spiritual lives of students.
- Partner in developing and implement a teaching and ministry of discipleship focused on instilling a love for Christ along with a broad understanding and love of scripture.
- Assist in creating, coordinating, and leading programs, events, missions and retreats.
- Pursue avenues that fully integrate the youth of this church into the life of the church. .
In addition to Youth Ministry the Intern will have opportunities to:
- Participate in Leading Worship
- Have opportunities to discern with other pastors and staff opportunities to further their education and experience.
- Attend and assist with all church events like the All Church Camp retreat and Church Picnic.
Basic Outline of Current Programmatic Structure:
- Sunday School on Sunday Mornings 10am : Flash AM. Assisted by volunteers.
- Program on Wednesday Evenings 6:00 PM. Led by Youth Ministry Team with volunteer support.
- Small Group Program on various nights 7-9pm. Led by volunteers and Youth Ministry Team.
- Regular special events for outreach and spiritual growth. Led by Program Director with volunteers.
Supervision & Development:
The Youth Ministry Intern reports to and meets with the Associate Pastor and is also directed by the Youth Director. There may be opportunity for conferences and educational development.
Desired Skill Set:
- Personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- 2+ years experience in a youth ministry setting.
- Advanced coursework in youth ministry, theology, and/or Christian formation.
- Demonstrated ability to be both a mature and engaging presence in the lives of students and families.
- Teaching experience and strong ‘up-front’ presence in youth ministry settings.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate and implement programs.
- Ability to learn new programs and technologies as needed.
Live in the area. Housing is not provided but we can work with the Intern towards a solution if this is an issue.

Director of Children's Ministry
Saratoga Presbyterian Church is seeking a gifted, energetic and experienced individual to develop a ministry to children and their families in Saratoga and the greater Silicon Valley area. This individual will design, implement and oversee a children’s ministry that leads children toward a living, real relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He or she will have a personal relationship with Jesus that actively shapes his or her character and life choices. He or she will have a passion for discipleship, an understanding of how children grow spiritually, and a desire to connect SPC’s ministry with children in our community in real and relevant ways. This individual will enjoy working in a team-oriented ministry environment – both as a member of SPC’s staff leadership team, and as a leader of a children’s ministry leadership team.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND RELATIONSHIPS:
This person reports directly to the Co-Pastors as Heads of Staff and serves under the authority of the Session of SPC. This position is overseen by the Elder of Children’s Ministry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee Sunday programs for children at SPC, including designing and/or selecting any necessary resources or curricula.
- Maintain a visible presence in Children’s Ministry events and programs.
- Develop and effectively communicate the value and purpose of SPC’s children’s ministry to SPC families and the greater SPC community.
- Recruit, resource, encourage and shepherd a team of volunteer leaders who possess a love for children, personal maturity and who reflect the love of Christ in their own lives.
- Provide oversight to the SPC Nursery, including supervision of paid and volunteer nursery staff, as well as designing and implementing appropriate nursery care policies.
- Regular and engaging communication with parents about their children’s participation and spiritual development.
- Connect children and their families with the greater SPC faith community as appropriate.
- Lead and coordinate various special events over the course of the year (e.g. Vacation Bible School, Christmas Pageant).
- Ensure that all leaders and volunteers who work with children have had necessary training and screening commensurate with SPC’s Safe Church policies, maintaining all current records and paperwork.
- Manage the annual budget for SPC’s Children’s Ministry.
- Attend weekly program staff meetings and other leadership meetings as appropriate.
- Develop creative ways to connect with children and families beyond the walls of SPC.
- Provide opportunities for children to participate in mission and service in age-appropriate ways.
- Coordination of childcare as needed for SPC-sponsored events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An active, real relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- A deep love for children.
- Previous experience in children’s ministry oversight.
- Skills in communicating effectively with both children and adults.
- Flexibility.
- Willingness to work as part of a team-oriented ministry environment.
- Strong organizational, time management, follow through and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrable understanding of children’s emotional and spiritual development, and the ability to develop a ministry that reflects this understanding.
- Ability to shepherd volunteer leaders in a manner that provides encouragement and spiritual growth.
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively in planning and designing programs for children at SPC.
- Willingness to teach Sunday school, if necessary.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in developing and leading children in meaningful worship together.
- Experience in involving children in worship services.
- Understanding of family systems.
- Understanding of the culture of Saratoga/Silicon Valley, and the unique challenges to and opportunities for ministry it provides.
HOURS:
20 hours per week
SALARY RANGE
$19.00-$22.50/hr.
