Grieving for Gilroy

Friends and Colleagues in the Presbytery:

As the tragic shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival continues to unfold, we know that many of you have inquired about the folks at Gilroy Presbyterian Church (GPC).

We have been in touch with the pastor, Rev. Trevor Van Laar, who was working at the festival and later provided chaplain duties. We have also touched base with others from GPC, and so far, everyone from the church checks in safe. Joey has been in touch with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and they stand ready to offer support in the ways that they can.

The area is still an active crime scene, an ongoing investigation is underway, and trauma and grief counseling is available.

We hope you will join us in praying for the victims, recovery for the injured, and patience and strength for the pastors, staff and leaders at GPC as they seek to be light and salt for the community during this difficult time. The church will be open from 11am – 5pm today for prayers and support.
